Print Vs Digital Photos

When it comes to photography, it’s interesting to see the huge evolution that it has gone through. It has evolved through the ages from being somewhat exclusive, because not everybody could initially afford a camera and film, to a point where almost everyone with a smartphone can be considered to be a photographer. This is a great thing for the world of photography because as we move into the digital age, more and more people put their albums up on Facebook and Instagram cultivating a digital album. But what of physical print you may ask? There is and always will be a debate going on over which is superior, digital, or print photos. In this article, we aim to look over them both.

If you were to print your photos to display them to the world and display them to your guests, you will undoubtedly need a frame of sorts. And for that, we can recommend wooden picture frames. They are not only a great company with great staff, but they really have some great picture frames. Check them out when you have the time.

Let’s discuss print vs digital when it comes to view ability. Photographs are obviously meant to be seen, and print is a medium that can be easily seen every day. After you print it out and have it framed on your desk, on your wall, table etc, you almost have no choice but to look at it every day. When we look at digital photos, it can be said that there are numerous advantages to be had over print. You can have hundreds if not thousands of photos on your smartphone and carry them around with you all day, ready to be viewed in an instant. The only problem with digital photos is that it is unlikely that you’re going to look at the photos regularly. Think about it when was the last time you simply looked at your gallery and started scrolling? Probably a very long time ago.

Let’s look at another factor. Longevity. When considering printed media, you can see that photos can easily last for decades. If you keep them in a safe place away from strong sunlight and away from moisture, physical prints will last for decades. But of course, it also depends on the place that you got them printed out from. A professional photo studio is far more likely to give you a better more high-quality print than some cheap grocery store photo printer. Physical photos also develop a pretty cool patina over the years. Depending on the print, they can undergo a slight fading of colors that can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Digital photos on the other hand can theoretically last forever. As long as there is some form of storage such as hard disks or cloud backups, your data will last forever. The only problem is that it is theoretical. Computers crash all the time, and the cloud might even go down at some point, so it may not be as long lasting as you think.
